Amelia and her new owner Haley bring in the Silver!!! Way to go Haley and Amelia!
Little Miss Amelia showed very nicely as a Spring Heifer and brought in the second place 4-H ribbon. I was such a proud human Mama! I sold Amelia to Haley and her family over a month ago just in time for her to enter Amelia in the 4-H competition.
Haley’s brother won Gold for his little heifer.
Of course in 4-H we’re always proud of our kids for showmanship, learning to care and show an animal and being good sports! However, as parents we never let the judges off the hook. Can you ever figure out a judge??? NO! They do what they want and make up the rules as they go along. Little Miss Amelia was judged against Spring Heifers that were almost 2 months older than she. And he says something like, “she’s a little small.” Does the judge take that into consideration? NO! But it’s neither here nor there and the kids and their parents learn how to shake it off. As Haley’s dad said, these heifers really can’t be judged well until they become cows. Then the proof is in the puddin! And there’s no hiding it!!!
Me on the other hand. I’ve held grudges against judges for a longgggg time! So long that I haven’t entered anything in the fair again until this year….that’s about 20 yrs! I guess I grew into my big girl pants and have them tied up with a piece of baling twine that could break at any moment! But really, they never ask all the questions I taught my kids to ask in home schooling. The 5w’s and an h! Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. If they don’t compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges how can they make a good judgement? Oh well, I guess I’ll get over it someday.
Until then I’ll just fake it! I’ll go in later this morning to see how my Peach Salsa and Gooseberry Conserve were judged. Maybe they were judged on their own merits. Maybe not. I’m learning to do it for the fun involved of being at the fair…..I could learn a few things from the 4-H kids!
Enough about politics…here’s Little Miss.

This little girls expression is priceless…..Uhh what do you mean I didn’t win!

Here’s Haley’s brother who not only can show a cow, but knows how to pose!
Great job kids!!!

Congratulations to both!
