Ever since this summer with the boxes of peaches sitting in the kitchen to be processed we have had a million fruit flies pestering us!!!!
Then we had the tomatoes.

Then we had the apples.

Even though there aren’t anymore peaches or tomatoes or apples sitting around those buggers are still here by the hundreds!
They just LOVE my water kefir! So…..I pulled out the big guns and got my brain to wrap around this little problem. Somewhere on some blog I’d seen something of this sort. SO….I made my own.
It’s a narrow neck bottle, with apple cider vinegar in the bottom. I took a small post card that came in the mail and made a narrow ended funnel.
Sure enough! They go in because they love that ACV and then they are too stupid to get back out!!!!
As a result…NO more fruit flies!!!!

Great idea! I discovered another way to rid our house of them too…I take a small jelly jar and put a squirt of any kind of dish detergent…for me something fragrance free… and add apple cider vinegar to it plus water. I just sit it on the counter and they fly in for the smells and the detergent I believe makes them too heavy to get out. Not sure, but it works too! So much better for us than any sprays, etc.
I saw something similar, but it was with a small soda bottle. You cut it in half, and turn the spout end upside down into the bottom end. Then you put the vinegar into the bottom end. The flies fly in the spout and dont’ come out. Works like a charm!
