Our flock of hens has dwindled to nearly nothing. We have Henrietta, The Matron of The Barnyard who only holds her place as top hen…nothing more. She does contribute to the barnyard entertainment and my joy of her funny chicken companionship!
I must really be lonely here!!!

Henrietta & Wynnona Judd
The other ladies are also getting past their prime and a few weeks ago one just fell over dead! I think she might of just fallen off the nest she’d been setting on for a good month. Poor girl just gave up the ghost. She was 3 or 4 and that’s about the life span of most chickens. Although their are some like Henrietta who will be here for E V E R!
We’ve been lucky to get maybe 3 eggs a day….that’s if I don’t break one in the process of gathering…you know that forgotten egg in your pocket! Oy, that makes such a mess!!!

I acquired from my farming friend, 6 laying hens. 3 Rhode Island Reds and 3 Sex Links. When she asked me if I wanted any Sex Links…I said, “EXCUSE ME!!!”
She saw that funny look in my eye and said they were GREAT layers. Well, sure. But I’m afraid that I really can’t keep calling them that.

So, first thing this morning, as soon as day broke I named those Sex Links….cause you can’t blog about such things!
We are still a “G” rated blog!!!
So, it’s my pleasure to introduce; (they really like me and won’t stand still long enough for me to take pictures…they keep following the lens….so….)
Mary Jane ( she moved so she’s headless
)

Mary Jane with Betty Lou! Betty Lou just wouldn’t stand still.
Emma which will probably be called Emmy Lou! (she said she wouldn’t stop working to pose…King Strut was standing guard…he loves having more ladies around!)![]()

Emmy Lou is easy to pick out…she has not butt. She just has a cute round little bottum! And looks like a little fluff ball.

The Rhode Island Reds, I haven’t been able to tell apart yet….but once I see their personalities they too will be named. Naming laying hens is one joy I have here….since they spend their life laying eggs and rarely ever have to see the soup pot…that is unless they really tick me off….then of course it’s off with their heads. But I promised my friend, these gals are for eggs.
Their first day here they didn’t even skip a beat! Eggs for everyone!!! We’re back in business!
The ducks haven’t begun to lay yet…..H~E~L~L~O!???
