I saw a sampler in an antique store once that read; “When I awoke, my life was dusty.”
That’s how I’ve felt MANY a time! Frankly, I don’t even have to sleep now for dust to accumulate! It just appears without any effort.
While I’ve been was out sick….and The Farmer’s Daughter assumed all my farm duties……a few things have changed. And frankly on a farm, it doesn’t take long for change.
Buddy Burger goes to bed in his stall without much of a fuss. You simply raise your arms outright and walk toward him….of course with the corral gate shut or he’ll make the mad dash….then he just goes in and you put the gate up. He’s gotten so big…I snuck down today to see them, but didn’t do too much rubbing and didn’t go in.

The Farmer’s Daughter picked out her motto from the Mary Jane magazine….“Stiletto’s by day, muck boots by night!” But keep it quiet, she doesn’t want it getting around!!! She got a promo and a raise at her paying job…..and I’m hoping that I’ll be back on my feet able to breathe again when she isn’t able to help me…it’s been almost a month. She might be good at puttin together someone who needs something for a interview….but she ain’t too good at puttin a halter on a calf!!!
She’s gone and put that thing on Buddy upside down. At least she’s trying!!!

His Ma is doing fairly well. Buddy is still my milker since no one else has that job but me. Joy looks a bit put out.

Most markedly Valentino is now a teenager! He is growing a goatee! His chest has turned black and he’s acting like the man on campus!!! Not much for touching and sweet talk though, which is a good thing….cause you don’t want to snuggle with a buck!!! Pee Yew!

My goaty girls that were bred the week of December 16 are all preggers and starting to pooch! They have little baby bellies and look so cute! Sophie is showing the most and Ginger just a little.

Mary Anne was happy to see me. She and Ginger both have that longing look in their eyes, wondering where I’ve been and when I’m coming back. Danny did too for that matter.

Fred, the rent-a-buck has settled in and is usually clueless about most things! He is the most gentle tempered buck I’ve ever seen. I’ve told his owner that I’d buy him in a heart beat! But it seems by all appearances that Vallie will be able to do the job next year….that is if I keep him around. He might go for meat though. I don’t know and I hate to think about those things. He’s still just too cute. Wait until he’s ugly and smelly and obnoxious! Then I’ll send him to the processor. But for now….I don’t want to think about it. Not yet.

The Farmer’s Daughter is still working on those darn chickens. Even after locking them up another 3 days they continue to want to roost in the milk room So she tosses them over the fence in the evening and they go to the coop. Maybe, just maybe one day they will go to bed on their own, but for now, they are being pains in the rear. And it’s all Audrey’s fault. She is stubborn as the day is long and puts up quite the fuss. We keep quoting a movie around here…..
“Off with her head!!!”
Come warmer weather, Audrey will be soup!

My little Araucana is finally laying cute, little blue eggs! For the most part we are having an Easter Egg hunt daily to find eggs. What’s with that? They’ve laid in the coop for a year and now they can’t? It’s ok, we have plenty of eggs even during the winter, but come summer they just might start to smell. Then I have a feeling we’ll find them.

Who says chickens don’t have personality….Henrietta, our matron of the barnyard, was so happy to see me she came running and nearly plowed right into the camera!

Before I know it Spring will be here and I’ll be digging in the garden with sunshine on my face. Our Farm GALS will be opening a Farm Market this year and I’ll let you know all about that so you can come out and visit us. And I’ll probably be putting up some BUY NOW buttons, so even if you live far far away, you can feel a part of our lives here at Peaceful Acres Farm.
Hopefully I’ll be awake soon and life will be back to normal….or almost normal….or close to normal………..whatever normal is. Some say it’s just a setting on the dryer.

What a great series of photo’s and its amazing how fast everyone can grow and change on the farm. I went away for a month once to look at my momma, she got a new hip and I could not believe how different everything was when I got home..
