Hired Hands

It’s a lot of work for one girl to do around here, so I’ve had to hire out some of it.

So far they are doing a splendid job! They work from sun up to sun down. They never complain. They don’t ask for much in return, except a nice place to sleep and at least a couple meals a day.

Who could ask for more?

Here they come now, eager to get to work!

The down side is, they don’t listen very well. I told them not to dig up my turnips yet, and as you can see…..they did.

They are doing a good job at weeding in the peppers though.

When they get hungry they just snack on Cilantro and bean beetles!

They’ve left what little beets I have alone.

With these little helpers around, who needs a shovel?!

I’ve told them to get all my raised beds weeded so I can plant a few things and get the garlic in. They’ve been working feverishly to get it done.

Job well done Ladies!

I know, you’re wondering if we had a calf yet…Not yet! She’s just warming up but you’ll know as soon as I do!

She was relaxing until I came along with the camera. You should of heard her complaining yesterday…“why do you insist on all these pictures when I look so fat!?”

Actually Joy you look stunningly beautiful!

From this….

To this….

My JOY!

I love the chickens in the garden and can’t wait to let our flock in…but not yet, they will have to be patient a bit longer. I love that first photo, I could almost hear them singing “Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work we go.”:)

No piggies here…remember we really are in the rural suburbs. If you didn’t know these critters were back here you’d think it was a decent neighborhood!! ;) I take that as a compliment from you….I thought it was a pretty nice looking bag myself!!

I thought about getting guineas but I’m not sure I can handle the noise factor. We don’t really live away from the road though and have even chased the chickens back a couple times. It’s ok though, I’m hoping they will decimate those natsy stink bugs that we have…another post entirely.

When she comes into her milk you are going to have to get a couple of pigs! That is a nice bag :)

Joy has such sweet eyes and the rest of her ain’t too bad either. I love the chicken pics. If you live away from the road try guineas. They really only eat the bugs and leave the vegies alone.
