Great Food & Fun

I hope that everyone had a lovely time with their families celebrating Christmas. We certainly did and it was one of our best. It’s funny as our kids get older and older I enjoy the holidays more.

I’ve been very bad about posting a dark days challenge meal with all of my Christmas preparations.  It’s not that we aren’t eating off the dark days….we are, but our meals are so boring when you consider all of our weird food issues.  Honey can’t eat anything with Tyramine in it.  That includes sooooo many things, including leftovers and especially ferments which I live off of to impart my healing and continued healing from  chronic infectious diseases; Lyme, Babesia/Malaria, Bartonella, and Ehrliciosis….(I know you didn’t ask!).

Tyramine is an amino acid that causes him severe migraines.  So we avoid them for the most part. Many times I’m fixing foods for him and foods for the rest of us.

Our meals are usually not very fancy nor do they use a great deal of ingredients.  Tyramine is in so many things, so we eat very simple whole foods.

Christmas breakfast was certainly a dark days meal.  We had local food all around. Except for my “exceptions” which includes flour.

Local fresh pastured eggs (I’d like to say they are mind, but my hens are officially lazy!), fresh bacon, pancakes with local maple syrup, homemade butter, and local fresh milk. We were able to have fresh bacon as well as cured bacon from our local Amish farmer.  Alright the coffee was in no way local! But it is fair trade and organic. The half n half I make from our local raw cream & milk….of course mixed half n half!

And let’s not forget the homemade sticky buns that turned out great. You can see how I make them by following the link.

I used my basic bread recipe and instead of 3 C warm water I used half water and half milk and threw in 2 eggs. I wanted a sweeter bun dough.

Cover with soft or melted butter then sprinkled with cinnamon, sugar & raisins.

Slice 1″ thick and allow room to rise.

Honey’s were made with sliced almonds…nuts are on the no no list. Almonds are not a nut.

I love mine with raisins and the kids like plain.

Christmas dinner was not local at all, but it was delish.  We had a local fresh ham that is really just a pork roast.  I glazed it with raw honey, cloves and mustard seed (no dry mustard…tyramine). The ham was really good. The Cheesy Potatoes were wonderful and the Broccoli Casserole the same. Homemade crescent rolls were to die for with fresh butter.

I hope it helps your mom Mike. It’s made all the diff here.

Thanks for this information. My mom has severe migraines and also eats lots of nuts which, I just read, contain tyramine. I will mention this to her.

Well thanks Wendy. I know, I can’t believe how many people think food comes from the Grocery Store! You can count on me to keep it simple!

Thanks. Yes, the whole family has been tested. Honey is negative. He’s had migraines his whole life and it seems to run in his family. Food and sleep seem to control them, but on occasion he takes a chance and pays for it. Thanks though for your concern. I’m glad that you seem to be doing well. It’s a hard one for sure!

I, too, have Lyme Disease. During the early years, before the Lyme, Babesia, & Bartonella symptoms were severe and obvious, I had severe migraines triggered by tyramine foods. Now I know that was an early symptom of Lyme, commonly called Lymegraines. Has Honey been checked for Lyme? It commonly spreads through families. After treatment for all three infections, I have fewer Lymegraines, and I can tolerate small amounts of tyramine foods. Best wishes to Honey.

Oh my, delicious! And who says meals need to use a lot of ingredients or be fancy? There are so many people who don’t cook AT ALL, and some of us are just learning to please do post things even if they seem super simple to you.
