Future Relations

Josie and Joy came into heat together on the weekend of the 20th.  That was fun!

NOT!

It wouldn’t be so bad, but when you have neighbors as close as we do….and Josie starts bawling at 1AM…..well, you can only imagine the anxiety that it causes me.  I was so stressed and at 2:30AM I got up and gave her a serving of alfalfa cubes to quiet her.  It worked until 7AM.  Not bad.

Joy never said a word…not one single word.  She was pretty actively trying to mount Josie all weekend.  Josie did have a standing heat.  But I didn’t hang around all weekend in the rain to see if Joy did….but on Sunday morning both girls had a very large obvious bloody show.

I’ve made plans again to take them to Jehovah Jireh Farm to rondevu with their bull, whom I’m calling Big Daddy.

So far Big Daddy has thrown two polled heifer calves.  Hopefully he will get the job done and both of my bovine ladies will give birth next September.  I know that it will be insane to have two heifers calving at the same time, but that’s they way the cookies crumble.  Our calves will be 3/4 Jersey and 1/4 Limousine.

Josie and Joy are going to be in hog heaven with all that lovely pasture at Jehovah Jireh Farm.  Can you believe how fat and happy they look just eating grass?
